Good news

Well, I kind of lost track of Romantic Times reviews and my Strength books. But I have to pull some quotes from them.

For The Strength of the Pack, Seth’s story:

For The Strength of the Wolf, Veronica’s story:

Also, it’s very exciting for me to have my book Marked (by Joely Skye) on sale in print. Marked is set in the same world as the Strength books. Veronica plays the biggest role, but both Seth and Trey appear on stage too, as does David, Veronica’s husband.

More on Yellowstone

I’ve written a couple of posts on the wolves at Yellowstone Park, particularly the Druid Peak pack.

So I was interested to see that last week, the Washington Post had an article about how the Yellowstone wolves are doing now. It talks about the polarizing effect of their reintroduction, the way wolves are romanticized and demonized, and how wolf enthusiasts arrive regularly to watch the animals.

Another article I found, at Newsweek, was about a new British reality series, Living With the Wolfman, which follows a couple who attempt to integrate themselves into a pack of wolves. Shaun Ellis spent time near Yellowstone National Park studying wolves’ distinctive howls. I’m not entirely sure what I make of their quest.

Mrs. Giggles

Dear Author

Guillaume Depardieu

We have the soundtrack for Tous les Matins du Monde. We saw the movie, maybe ten years ago. I disliked it, but it was beautifully shot and Gerard Depardieu, the star, is as always compelling.

His younger self in that movie was played by his son, Guillaume Depardieu. I remember at the time wondering about that choice of actor. Guillaume was twenty then, a beautiful young man, overshadowed in the movie by his father (though they don’t share screen time, given that they play the same character). He seemed to be mostly there to look beautiful.

The film is sad and depressing and the father-son Depardieu character is kind of a shit. At least, that’s how I remember it.

I only heard of Guillaume occasionally afterwards.

But for some reason I was so sad to hear of his death this past week, and also of his difficult life. He died of pneumonia. He had arrests, drug-addiction problems, a leg amputated. He and his father were estranged.

And all I can remember is the beauty of the music and this young man in Tous Les Matins du Monde. I wish things had gone otherwise for him.

Rest in peace.

Puma is out!

My cat shifter book is out. Yay! You can buy it here.

Blurb:

Only in each other will they discover how to be truly free.

Callie, a cat-shifter, is a loner by virtue of the puma that lives inside her. After a job gone bad, her very human need for contact sends her in search of the only family she has. Callie finds her foster sister in a disturbing living arrangement. Something is seriously wrong in a place where people “belong” to one man and silence is enforced to the point a seven-year-old girl pretends to be autistic.

Dev Malik thinks it’s odd to see a strange woman in the tall grass behind his house, but he doesn’t have the time to ponder why. He’s too busy trying to shelter the child and woman in his household from Scott, the control freak who lives with them.

The truth is more dangerous than Callie imagines. Scott’s control is powerfully real. And Dev’s need to protect the vulnerable is as strong as Callie’s own. Their desire is as inevitable as it is frightening, for only by looking deep within each other will they find the strength to free them all from an unspeakable evil.

There’s already a review up at Romance Junkies: 4.5 blue ribbons for Puma.

PUMA is filled with mysteries to unfold. Ms. Spencer filled me with many emotions… Along with love and passion. It was a definite page turner…

Solution

I’ve been mulling over the next scene, already written. It was kinda boring to write and as I approach, I realize I don’t know how to make it not boring.

Skip it.

I often forget this solution, but I’m going to fast-forward to the next scene, a scene I’m excited about writing, and feed in the necessary backstory to explain how character E got from point A to point B.

It’s not a complicated explanation and it’s a short period of time, so filling in the relatively small gap shouldn’t be a problem.
