Haven on sale and excerpt #3

Haven is on sale now!

By the way, I’m guestblogging at Miladyinsanity where I talk about sense of place. Thanks, May!

And here’s excerpt #3:

“Comparison shop?” said Jim in surprise. “I’m not seeing Victoria. I suppose I can be flattered by your jealousy.”

“You can be whatever you like.” Her cheeks appeared stained in the darkness. He lifted a hand but she stepped back.

“I didn’t think you’d see Victoria as competition, because I don’t.” He held up the bottle. “How about some wine?”

“No.”

“Not to get you wildly drunk, you understand. A social drink.”

Fallen From Grace

I loved Fallen From Grace by Laura Leone. It was an engaging read, I finished it in one day, I adored Ryan and I liked Sara—mostly, I wasn’t crazy over her reaction to her sister’s revelation.

I was so taken I dreamed of the book.

And yet. It seemed too clean. Ryan seemed too nice. I have to wonder if this premise has to clean up its environment a little in order to make the romance work. And is that a bad thing? It certainly isn’t restricted to male escort romances. Lots of premises are cleaned up: amnesia, secret baby, faux strippers, etc. etc.

I roamed the internet after my read to see other reviews. Plenty of people loved it, some people were disappointed by the lack of grittiness.

It’s not a perfect book, but my love for it was so great I didn’t read another book for a few days so FFG wouldn’t get pushed out of my mind. Ryan was a wonderful hero. Some fantastic scenes between the hero and heroine, with strong dialogue.

This is when you know that reviews are subjective.

Haven excerpt #2

In a week, Haven will be on sale. Hard to believe! Here’s a second excerpt:

Well, whatever happens, happens. Hmmm. This passive approach didn’t strike her as alluring and sexy. Maybe that was the point. She could drive Jim away with her nerves and off-putting behavior. It had worked before. This avoidance tended to cause her a lot of pain and regret, and one day she’d be happy to develop a less stressful strategy.

Not that she wanted to drive Jim away.

“Can—”

She emitted a high-pitched eeee, then slapped a hand over her mouth. Charming. She removed her hand and saw Jim was diverted by the situation.

He slid off his sandals. “We’ve developed a certain pattern of greet and scream.”

Sick and grumpy

I’ve had enough of being sick. Three days, mostly in bed, lots of sleeping, some reading, no writing (some editing though). Oh yeah, that’s my news: final line edits are done! Haven is all set! Yay!

Now I just have face look forward to its release. This weekend I’ll be giving away a copy of Haven via Romance Junkies delurk day. (I’ll also give away a copy here during the first week of its release, but I’ll talk about that later.)

I’ve been reading: Jo Goodman (like!), Carrie Vaughn’s Kitty and the Midnight Hour (great werewolf stuff, especially the pack dynamics, but [spoiler] plus she had something I use with my werewolves which took me aback—it’s a small thing but anyway), Tracy Grant’s Daughter of the Game (mixed feelings though I’m glad I read it) and the first novella in Amy Garvey’s I Love You to Death (like! sweet romance).

Next should I read?
The Mount Carol Emshwiller—too heavy-handed, neat idea though
Bound Sasha White
Fallen From Grace Laura Leone
More Jo Goodman
The Eustace Diamonds Anthony Trollope

Decisions, decisions.
